Warner Warns of Senior Scam

CONNELLSVILLE – Rep. Ryan Warner (R-Fayette) is warning Pennsylvania seniors and their families about a phone scam involving individuals posing as representatives of the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue.

Scammers may claim there was an error with a resident’s Property Tax/Rent Rebate application and then ask for confidential or personal information over the phone.

“The Department of Revenue will never call and ask residents to provide confidential information by phone,” Warner said. “Like the IRS, the department communicates important matters through the mail. Seniors and their families should be especially cautious and independently verify the source before sharing any personal information.”

Warner urges residents to remind friends, family members, and neighbors that scammers may use urgency or fear to pressure people into sharing sensitive details.
